Games Workshop licenses FPS Space Hulk on Unreal Engine 4

According to a leaked pamphlet, StreumOn Studios, the developer behind E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy, is working on a new Space Hulk game, but it's nothing like the turn based, digital remake of the board game. This one will be an FPS built in the Unreal Engine 4 and it's set to be called: Space Hulk: Deathwing.

According to the leaflet, players will take on the role of a Dark Angels Death Wing Librarian, an elite psychic warrior, among a group of elite warriors, as part of an elite chapter of super soldiers. You're about as specialised and as super powered as you can get in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, so expect the challenge to be great.

Other details gleamed from the scanned document include the fact that Blood Bowl developer Cyanide games will co-produce it and that Focus Home Interactive will publish the game sometime in 2014.

KitGuru Says: Whilst I like the idea of anything being made out of the wonderfully dark and depressing 40k universe, none of the names involved here make me get too excited. Streum On has one game under its belt which received mixed reviews. Focus Home Interactive doesn't have any big name titles in its catalogue and I'm not sure Space Hulk really lends itself to an FPS experience. It's all about strategy and force management – and a lot of luck. In an FPS, it'll be just about mowing down aliens. Dying will just be cause for a reload, instead of panic as you realise your team is now defenceless. 

Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but this just doesn't seem like the greatest fit for 40k. What do you guys think?

I rather GW licensed a Deus Ex style game, where you play as an arbites or inquisitorial henchman travelling the galaxy mass effect style rooting out the alien, mutant and heretic across a system sector, delving into the darkest depths of Imperium, exploring bleak planetscapes to find a Mechanicus survey wiped out and discovering you are at the heart of a Necron tombworld. I think GW spend too much time focusing on Space Marines, and not enough time getting dark and gritty with the wealth of mature lore available to them. They have everything written for them already to make a deep, mature game and they squander it repeatedly.
