We reported in recent months that Apple are planning to release a new watch (dubbed the iWatch), which will not only act as a watch, but connect to their iPhone device to relay information to the user's wrist. It would appear that Samsung are planning something similar.
While Samsung have partnered up with Apple to supply a wide range of their hardware components, the tension between the two companies has been growing in the last year. A Samsung executive spoke with Bloomberg to say that they have also been working on wearable devices which will act like a smartphone.
Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile business said “We've been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”
Lee didn't speak of any pricing, features or a release date but they will likely be wanting to beat Apple to the punch, with a higher specified model. Their high end Galaxy S IV is already leading the pack when it comes to technological specifications.
Apple have apparently got a team of 100 people working on their upcoming smart wristwatch, including some leading executives within the organisation. Other reports say that Apple are playing with curved glass.
