Samsung reject Firefox OS

A high level senior executive at Samsung spoke out at Mobile World Congress to say that Samsung won't be developing any products that will run the Firefox operating system.

We can't say the news is a shock, as Samsung are the strongest Android OS smartphone and tablet manufacturer and they are also working on devices that run the Tizen OS. Rumours circulating indicate that the first Tizen OS Samsung product could be released as early as July.

As we reported yesterday, Firefox OS is targeting the emerging markets and has gained the support of handset makers already such as ZTE, LG, Huawei and Alcatel.

Firefox OS will be HTML5 based, using the browser engine to run Web applications. They will be using a grid style interface which should look quite similar to iOS and Android.

The first phones using the operating system are due to arrive in Q2 2013 and should be low end models at competitive price points. More powerful models will come later however featuring the dual core Snapdragon S4 processor.

Kitguru says: Will they be able to take the market by storm later this year?
