Sony to release 20.7MP camera phone with add on lenses

Sony Mobile have announced a new addition to their Xperia smartphone lineup this week – which has a 20.7 megapixel camera and can accept add on lenses.

The Xperia Z1 looks set to target an audience who want a much higher grade camera on their smartphone. The high resolution lens is built into the camera, but you can fit additional detachable lenses and control them from the 5 inch screen.

Sony also are claiming that the lens can be used with other Android smartphones and even the Apple iPhone. The Z1 has dedicated applications to make life easier for people, they say that video can be streamed directly to a Facebook page for instance. Images can also be stored online and the software will search for information on whatever is being tracked via the camera.

The smartphone ships with a powerful 2.2ghz processor and a waterproof aluminium case. It will go on sale later this month.
