Twitter music app now available

Ok so I said last week that the Twitter music app was going to launch over the first Coachella weekend. My bad. In all fairness though, everyone else said that it was going to, so at least a lot of us were wrong. That said, the Twitter music app is now out in the wild as it was officially released yesterday.

Last week's launch rumours ultimately turned out to be the closed beta for a few individuals in the music business. We'd already talked about Ryan Seacrest announcing his enjoyment of it, but over the past week, Wiz Kalifa, Tommy Lee and a few other artists have also stated – of course via Twitter – how much they too like listening to music via Twitter. And now you and I can join them.

But how does it work Jon? I hear you ask. Well, according to Twitter:

“The songs on Twitter #music currently come from three sources: iTunes, Spotify or Rdio. By default, you will hear previews from iTunes when exploring music in the app.” reads the statement on the social network's blog. “Subscribers to Rdio and Spotify can log in to their accounts to enjoy full tracks that are available in those respective catalogs. We will continue to explore and add other music service providers.”

Another advantage is being able to see what music your followers and those that you follow are into, as well as going to band pages via twitter profiles, filled with information about the group. Users can also tweet about what music they're listening to, to share it among friends.
