Fancy a pizza? Order it from your Xbox, with Kinect

Pizza Hut has introduced a new app for the Xbox 360, which allows users to order pizzas online and even design their own custom toppings with the use of Kinect. Whether this will evolve into some sort of social-network mini-game remains to be seen, but it does sound intriguing.

“We're always looking at ways to give our audience more of what they're interested in,” Xbox community guru Larry Hyrb said while speaking with Polygon. “If you look at our audience, they love pizza. I mean, who doesn't? It has international appeal, and Pizza Hut is a recognized brand that matches up well with the Xbox brand.”

The relevancy of Pizza Hut in contemporary cuisine is arguable, with its failed foray into Pasta Hut name branding remaining a recent memory for most Brits. Still, the app development is admirable.

“Pizza Hut has always showed affinity for new ways to order products. Now we can do it on console. The app was a logical progression,” Hyrb continued. “It's important to us that we provide the right experience, and we'll go where the audience is interested in taking us. If they have an appetite for it, we'll investigate it.”

The Kinect controls allow users to move through the interface using voice commands and hand gestures, which according to Hyrb is a faster way to build a pizza than using a standard control – though I'm not sure if that's a statement as to Kinect's fluidity, or of the clunkiness of the interface.
