Acer 10 inch tablet and Amazon 7inch Kindle Fire to be made by Compal

The new cost effective 10 inch tablet from Acer will be produced by Compal Electronics. Shipments are due to start in August 2013 according to an unnamed source I spoke with this weekend in Taipei.

Compal were able to get the order from under the nose of Wistron according to our reports. Wistron have however managed to get orders for the Acer 7.9 inch Iconia A1 810 with shipments starting in June 2013.

Amazon are also working with Compal for their new version of the Amazon 7 inch Kindle Fire. Compal Electronics are planning to ship close to 10 million tablets in 2013 which could make up around 10% of their revenues in Q1 2013.

Kitguru says: both should sell well considering the competitive price points.

  1. I honestly don’t see why anyone would go with any tablet other than the Nexus 7, 32gb at £200 is just too good a deal and I haven’t seen a tablet at that price point that can beat it yet.

  2. I went with the 7″ Kindle Fire HD recently after comparing it to the Nexus 7, and I am very happy with the choice. Google Play is just not as well integrated yet, and they do not have anywhere near the amount of books, movies, or music that Amazon does. If you’re looking mainly for apps instead of media though, I could understand choosing the Nexus 7 instead.

  3. Amazon has the best prices on all of the Kindle Fire Models! Check it out here! http://bit.ly/GetAKindleFire
