WearIt Sporty smartwatch: for the active user

With Apple and Samsung dragging their heels, other companies have been launching their latest smartwatch designs, hopefully to grab some sales before the headlines feature the big players. The WearIT smartwatch is a sportswatch design designed for the active user.

The WearIT features a small 1.54 capacitive touchscreen with a 240 x 240 pixel resolution. Underneath, it is powered by a Cortex A8 600mhz processor and has 256MB of ram onboard to run the Android 4.1 Jellybean based operating system.

The company have included 4GB of internal storage and it is loaded out with sensors, including an accelerometer, pedometer, magnetometer, GPS and digital compass. The small 550 mAh lithium ion battery can be charged over USB.

The company aren't promoting this watch as a communications device and it can't be paired up with a mobile phone to handle a myriad of duties. It includes BlueTooth connectivity however to stream music to Bluetooth headphones – ideal for the gym, or when you are out running. It can also be connected to health monitoring devices to measure heart rate.

The device has wireless connectivity (802.11b/g/n) to upload data to social networks. There is also a WearIT App store planned but no launch date has been set at this point. The company want developers involved as they have released an SDK to create applications.

The Wear IT case is meant to deal with rough conditions when you are travelling or hiking up a mountain. It is waterproof and will ship in a variety of colours. The company will be launching at CES in January next year and the price looks to be close to the $400 mark.
