The ESA and ReedPop part ways, meaning E3 2024 might not happen

The ESA has struggled to get E3 up and running ever since all physical conventions were halted during the COVID-19 global pandemic – though not for lack of trying. Unfortunately for them, it seems as though things have gone from bad to worse, with E3’s supposed saviour ReedPop now parting ways with the company.

As reported by gamesindustry.biz, PAX organiser ReedPop have parted ways with the ESA ahead of them hosting any actual E3 events – leading to E3 2024 no longer taking place at the LA Convention Centre.

For the uninitiated, ReedPop signed a multi-year deal with the ESA to help bring future E3 showcases to fruition. Unfortunately this did not leave enough time for a 2023 event – though promises were made that E3 would be back and bigger than ever in 2024. It seems this will not be the case after all.

Speaking on the announcement, ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis said “We appreciate ReedPop’s partnership over the past 14 months and support their ongoing efforts to bring industry and fans together through their various events. While the reach of E3 remains unmatched in our industry, we are continuing to explore how we can evolve it to best serve the video game industry and are evaluating every aspect of the event, from format to location. We are committed to our role as a convenor for the industry and look forward to sharing news about E3 in the coming months.”

According to gamesindustry.biz, the ESA are now looking further ahead to 2025, with “a complete reinvention of the E3 show” said to be in the works. Considering the state of E3 over the past few years however, we will have to wait and see about that.
