Xbox sales on the rise following Starfield launch

The UK video game sales chart last week was dominated by Starfield, with Bethesda's new RPG entering the chart in the number one spot, beating out the likes of Call of Duty, NBA 2K24, FIFA and others. The game's success has also had an impact on the sales of Xbox consoles.

According to GfK tracking data, via GI.biz, Xbox Series X/S sales rose by 76 percent last week alongside Starfield's launch. The standard Xbox Series X had the biggest boost, but there has also been a good jump in the sales of Xbox Series S consoles.

According to the data, the brand-new 1TB version of the Xbox Series S accounted for around 24 percent of Xbox sales in the UK, while the Xbox Series X had a 46 percent increase in sales for the week ending on September 2nd.

We currently don't have information on how Starfield's launch has impacted Game Pass subscriptions. However, we do know that the game has already surpassed six million players, with two million of those playing during the game's early access period, which was only available to those who pre-ordered the game's Premium Edition or bought the Premium Edition upgrade on Game Pass for £34.99.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft's next earnings report will certainly be interesting, but we're still a while off from that happening. If Starfield is performing as well as they'd hoped, then we should hear about a new Game Pass milestone and increased gaming revenues.
