Crystal Dynamics has been planning a new Tomb Raider game for a while now. Back in 2021, the studio stated it wanted to merge more elements of classic Tomb Raider into its next game and by the end of last year, it was announced that Amazon has signed on to publish the new game. Now, it seems the next Lara Croft adventure will be officially announced this year.
Back in January, a report claimed that Crystal Dynamics would be announcing a new Tomb Raider game this year after shutting down development on Marvel's Avengers. Recently, Lara Croft was confirmed to be getting a new skin in Call of Duty. Such a move would typically take place for promotional purposes but right now, the next Tomb Raider game has not been announced. As Okami Games points out on Twitter, the official Tomb Raider website has been updated recently, indicating that something new is on the way.
Amazon Games, the publisher for the next Tomb Raider game, has previously made announcements at Geoff Keighley's events like Summer Games Fest. With that in mind, fans are now keeping their fingers crossed for a new Tomb Raider reveal during this year's Gamescom: ONL stream, organised and hosted by Keighley. The stream will air this week.
The previous Tomb Raider game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, came out back in 2018. Crystal Dynamics has been through plenty of changes over the last few years, including being sold off from Square Enix and joining Embracer Group. The studio also spent a number of years trying to provide a live-service Avengers game, so it is difficult to predict exactly when work on the next Tomb Raider game may have begun. However, given that the studio began talking about the next game in 2021, we can assume that development has been underway for a couple of years at least.

KitGuru Says: If a new Tomb Raider game is announced this year, I would anticipate a late 2024 or early 2025 release date.
