Konami greenlit MGS: Delta because young gamers “aren’t familiar” with Metal Gear anymore

There was once a time when Konami reigned supreme near the top of the video game developer/publisher podium, with the company being responsible for franchises including but not limited to Castlevania; Bomberman; Contra; Frogger and of course Metal Gear Solid. With the classic MGS 3: Snake Eater getting a remake in the form of ‘Delta’ Konami have revealed why they chose to bring back Snake and the Metal Gear series.

As reported by GamesRadar+, in the latest issue of Play Magazine producer for the Metal Gear series – Noriaki Okamura – spoke on the reasons as to why the IP is being brought back now instead of some other time, stating:

“One of the things that really sparked us to do the remake in general is because we realised that a lot of the newer, younger generation of gamers aren’t familiar with the Metal Gear series anymore.”

Okamura continued, “It was basically our mission, our duty, to kind of continue making sure that the series lives on for future generations. After all, we leave behind much more than just DNA, as Solid Snake would say—but again, who is Solid Snake?”

Konami Metal Gear

This isn’t the first time that Okamura has spoken on the legacy of Solid Snake, stating in a different interview last month that “Before everyone who was involved in the original is gone, we need to create a path to preserve the Metal Gear series for 10 or 50 years into the future. I think this is something we have to do.”

The story of the Metal Gear Solid series is a tragic one, with the breakdown of relations between series creator Kojima and publisher Konami tainting the series for years. Hopefully a full decade removed from all the drama is enough time to allow the dust to settle.
