Atlus RPG ‘Metaphor: ReFantazio’ surpasses one million copies sold

Atlus has found success with its latest RPG. The studio best known for the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games has released its first new IP in years, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and it has quickly surpassed one million sales.

Atlus announced today that its latest game has surpassed one million sales worldwide, in just one day. Typically, this would mean that pre-orders were very strong, which is a testament to the reputation Atlus has built with its other RPGs, like Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 and most recently, Persona 3: Reloaded.

Metaphor: ReFantazio has also been one of the highest-rated games of 2024 on Metacritic, earning high scores from numerous gaming outlets. The game will no doubt end up in the running for several Game of the Year awards.

In Metaphor: ReFantazio, players are transported into a fantasy world, where you and your fairy companion must lift a curse and save the kingdom. It is a very different flavour to the likes of Persona or Shin Megami Tensei. The Persona games are primarily set in real-world Japan, with trips into another dimension. Meanwhile, SMT is set in a post-apocalyptic version of Japan.

KitGuru Says: It seems Atlus has found a hit with its latest new IP. Perhaps Metaphor will become the company's next ‘pillar' series, standing strong next to Persona and SMT.
