Sony Playstation Phone images leak – powered by Android

Sony fans can rejoice, it looks as if they are releasing a new PlayStation Phone, according to gadget sites such as Engadget. Speculation is that the phone will be powered by an upcoming version of Google Android called Gingerbread.

Engadget have said that the phone should be launched officially next year and that the availability will be announced at the Mobile World Congress in February. The product will also feature a custom version of Sony Marketplace to enable users to download games designed specifically for the Playstation phone.

Sony have issued no statement on this instead falling on the usual “Sony does not comment on rumour and speculation” and refused to comment at all on the leaked pictures. They failed to make a comment on whether the product was even being made added more rumour mill commentary to the debate on the internals.

Other rumours suggest that the Phone will have a 1GHZ Qualcomm MSM8655 as the mani CPU with 512mb of ram installed. In an unusual change of heart it also appears that Sony have ditched the memory stick slot, relying on the use of a MicroSD card. Makes sense to us, but we are surprised that Sony would agree.

KitGuru says: Sony won't confirm or deny anything, but it doesn't stop everyone speculating. Pretty or Ugly?, let us know your views.
