The Apple iPad Tablet is in a market that many manufacturers are longing to get into. Unfortunately for some, this has proven to be more difficult than they thought.
The Advent Vega Android tablet has been released with the nVidia Tegra 2 chipset onboard, you can now buy it from PC World directly for £250, significantly cheaper than the Apple iPad.
This is a 10 inch capacitive design and is powered by Android 2.2. Tegra 2 is a strong looking platform with 1080p video support via HDMI out. The screen only supports 1024×600 so even 720p is outside the parameters of the panel, although it will scale down to fit.
Battery life is said to be around 6.5 hours, 3.5 less than the iPad, but still quite impressive and enough to watch several movies on the go. There is 512mb of storage onboard however they include a 4GB microSD card to help improve the situation.
The Advent Vega comes with a front facing camera for video chatting, something we feel that might be a big selling point for this product, Apple have yet to offer this on their product. Other features include Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11 b/g Wifi support.
The Vega is slightly heavier than the ipad weighing in at 750g but it is thinner at 13.6mm.
KitGuru says: This looks rather good, but we reserve judgement until we get our hands on one.
it says its not available, pre order?
This could sell well, if it is promoted right. I know a lot of people would love an ipad, but cant stretch to 450. depends on the app support, but as google are behind that, should be ok.
