Galaxy Tab sells over 1 million units: half adoption rate of iPad

Latest figures in show that the Samsung Galaxy Tab has sold just over 1 million units in two months, after it has gone on sale outside the U.S. This is a good showing for the Android powered tablet, especially in such a tough marketplace.

Apple's 9.7 inch iPad sold over 1 million units in a single month, after going on sale in April of this year. We spoke to various carriers recently and they said that the Samsung Galaxy Tab sales were very healthy indeed and showed that there is a market beyond the iPad. Detailed figures have not yet been released for the popular American thanksgiving holiday time period but Samsung have confirmed that over 1 million sales have been reached.

Apple's iPad continues to dominate this sector with little in the way of direct competition as yet. With over 4 million sold in the fourth quarter, ending October 31st it looks to be going from strength to strength.

KitGuru says: We are pleased to see so many people adopting the Galaxy Tab in its early months, as the Google Android mobile OS is a great platform which we hope will continue to flourish and grow in 2011.

  1. I am really glad to see android units selling so well. iOS is expensive. android will offer a lot of cheaper alternatives. we all want that. Might actually force Apple to release their products at reasonable price points too.
