Computex 2019: MSI Titan and Raider laptop preview (Core i9, RTX graphics and up to 240Hz!)

Ahead of our lengthy week at Computex, today we took some time to visit MSI's HQ in Taipei, where Leo got a good look at two of MSI's upcoming gaming laptops- the MSI GT76 Titan and the GE65 Raider. One is a hefty desktop replacement with a full desktop Core i9-9900K processor and an RTX 2080. The other is a slimmer gaming laptop with a Core i9 mobile chip, RTX 2070 graphics and a 240Hz display.

The MSI GT76 Titan is an upgrade from the previous generation GT75. This time around, MSI has upgraded the cooling to what it is calling ‘Cooler Boost Titan'. MSI creates its own laptop cooling in-house, this time around, it has four fans and from what we were able to see, it also has 11 heat pipes. This will help keep that desktop Core i9-9900K cool and according to MSI, it also paves the way for 5GHz boost speeds across all cores for extended periods of time.

In terms of spec, you get an ‘IPS level' 4K display, up to a Core i9-9900K and up to RTX 2080 graphics. The 4K display is particularly noteworthy as it has the thinnest bezels in a 4K gaming laptop to date. MSI also says that you won't find this thin bezel design on other 4K laptops for the time being, indicating that there may be an exclusivity deal somewhere along the way.

The GE65 Raider has also received some upgrades, getting a bump up to Intel 9th Gen processors. Specifically, you'll be able to find models with up to a 9th Gen Core i9 mobile CPU and up to RTX 2070 graphics. The display in use here is also 1080p at 240Hz, so you'll have extremely high refresh rate gaming wherever you go.

The upgrade to Intel 9th Gen CPUs also paves the way for WiFi 6. We've all become used to 802.11ac as the standard for connectivity over the last few years but networking upgrades are now on the way. With WiFI 6, users can expect faster speeds, better range and better traffic management.

We don't have exact prices or release dates for these laptops yet, but we'll hopefully have more information on that front soon.

KitGuru Says: MSI is off to a great start at Computex this year with these new laptops but there is plenty left to talk about, which we'll be digging into soon.
