Microsoft explains why its mobile Xbox app has yet to release

Back in May, Microsoft announced that they would be releasing a new Xbox app for mobile which would allow you to purchase games directly through the app – among other additions. While the app was said to be launching in July, it has yet to come to fruition. According to Microsoft, it’s ready to launch, but can’t currently be released due to legal issues.

The launch date for Microsoft’s new Xbox app has been pushed back a few times now. As mentioned, it was intended to release in July, however this did not come to pass. Then, Microsoft claimed that the app would arrive in November. With the month nearing its end, Xbox executive Sarah Bond took to social media to explain why it’s not here yet, claiming:

“Due to a temporary administrative stay recently granted by the courts, we are currently unable to launch these features as planned. Our team has the functionality built and ready to go live as soon as the court makes a final decision.”

While Microsoft could technically release the app at any time, they appear to be waiting until it is most financially advantageous to do so – when they could launch the app on the Play Store without paying as many fees.

Google responded to Bond’s comments with a similar sentiment, writing “Microsoft has always been able to offer their Android users the ability to play and purchase Xbox games directly from their app – they’ve simply chosen not to.”

KitGuru says: Are you at all interested in the new Xbox app? Would you sideload it if it was made available early outside the Play Store? Let us know down below.
