OnePlus to release a second smartphone this year

OnePlus only just announced the OnePlus Two and now it looks like the company is planning to come back for more later this year as the company has promised a second smartphone to launch before Christmas this year. OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, has said that the company plans to introduce a second smartphone later this year.

Earlier this week, in an interview with USA Today, Pei confirmed a second device for “before the end of the year”, which lines up nicely with earlier rumours, which pointed to OnePlus launching two new smartphones this year.

“When I saw the prototype for the new phone I was like ‘Holy shit, that's going to be my daily driver,' but then when the OnePlus 2 production version came out it's also super nice, so it's really hard to decide now what to use”. Unfortunately the details pretty much end there as Pei went on to say “It's going to be amazing, but today I'm not going to talk about it”.

The OnePlus 2 is currently being sold on the invite system. Right now over one million people are on the reservation list for an invite, so it's going to be quite some time before everybody who wants the OnePlus 2 actually manages to get their hands on it.

The OnePlus 2 currently costs $329 and starts shipping out this month. We don't know much about OnePlus' secret second phone at the moment but we will be on the lookout for any leaks or rumours.

KitGuru Says: OnePlus has been very successful for such a new company. Its even more impressive when you consider how saturated the Android smartphone market actually is these days. Are any of you planning on picking up the OnePlus 2? Or are you sticking to the OnePlus One?

  1. Got the 1+1 a month ago, sticking to it until very early next year as it is fine, and OxygenOS really needs to sort out it’s bugs on initial release.
