Google Maps updated for Android and iOS

Google has pushed out a big update for its Google Maps service application on Android and iOS, giving users a brand new look and a few additional features. Google Maps seems to be the best performing mobile option for those who need to find their way around in a new place but the company is aiming to keep improving its uses.

Google says that the new update will be rolling out over the next few days, bringing in a re-designed look and all new information to help users find places to eat or show taxi options. A company blog post states: “This new look is all about creating surfaces and shadows that echo the real world; with Google Maps' new Material feel, layers and buttons come to life so you know just where to touch to get directions, recommendations and imagery.”

The new Google Maps app

“By tapping on a place's info sheet at the bottom of your screen, you'll send an info layer gliding up to the top showing you photos, reviews, and more. And for the adventurous souls looking for a new place to dine or visit, you'll see ‘More to explore' at the bottom of your map”.

The new update will allow people to explore new areas a bit better and help find their way around, making it very handy indeed. The update will be rolling out over the next couple of days so it should hit your phone soon.
