MSI X460 Laptop Review (Core i7)

The tests were performed in a controlled air conditioned room with temperatures maintained at a constant 24c – a comfortable environment for the majority of people reading this.

Idle temperatures were measured after sitting at the desktop for 30 minutes. Load measurements were acquired by running Furmark and Cinebench together. Room ambient temperatures were 23c.

We measured results with CPUID Hardware Monitor software. The CPU was loaded with Cinebench in a loop and Furmark stress test.

System temperatures can get quite high, with the processor peaking around 88c when fully loaded. Nothing critical long term, but a little higher than we would like to see within such a confined space.

The machine gets hot on the left side (from top down) especially at the top, next to the heatpipe and fan exhaust. The other side of the chassis is quite cool even when loaded.

  1. Excellent, nice to see the prices dropping.

  2. Those are great cpus, my friend bought a Dell with one of them in it and its really so much faster than my older core 2 duo. noticeable, even when using basic apps

  3. Nice looking machine, shame they went for a complete gloss makeover. my toshiba machine is like that, and it looks like a dogs dinner after 10 minutes using it.

  4. Core i7 runs hot in a laptop, never seen anyone using such a small chassis for one. well apart from Apple, but they overheat too.

  5. MSI are really underrated, but they do need to spice some of their machines up a little. This one is quite attractive and slim. Good performance (I dont game so I like intel onboard as its cool running and still accelerates HD media).
