MSI X460 Laptop Review (Core i7)

Rating: 8.0.

MSI have been releasing some very capable gaming and business systems in the last year. Today we are looking at their latest X460 machine, which is aimed at a user who demands maximum processing power. Our review machine is based around a powerful second generation Core i7 2630QM processor, which should be ideal for intensive tasks, such as 3D rendering and video encoding.

Instead of creating a monster sized laptop, roughly the size of a small car, MSI have opted for a rather diminutive chassis. The slim body houses a 14 inch gloss screen which runs at a native resolution of 1366×768.

Our review sample is supplied with a generous 500GB 7,200 rpm hard drive, THX audio support, DVD RW optical drive and Intel HD 3000 graphics.

MSI also claim that the X460 has a 8 hour+ battery life, which we will test later in the review.

At only £799.99 this seems to be a great value on paper, but is the machine worth the money?

  1. Excellent, nice to see the prices dropping.

  2. Those are great cpus, my friend bought a Dell with one of them in it and its really so much faster than my older core 2 duo. noticeable, even when using basic apps

  3. Nice looking machine, shame they went for a complete gloss makeover. my toshiba machine is like that, and it looks like a dogs dinner after 10 minutes using it.

  4. Core i7 runs hot in a laptop, never seen anyone using such a small chassis for one. well apart from Apple, but they overheat too.

  5. MSI are really underrated, but they do need to spice some of their machines up a little. This one is quite attractive and slim. Good performance (I dont game so I like intel onboard as its cool running and still accelerates HD media).
