Xiaomi’s new 12T Pro packs a 200MP camera system and powerful SoC in an affordable package

Xiaomi has two fresh smartphones hitting the UK market this month – the new Xiaomi 12T and the 12T Pro. These are the company's new flagships for the international market, powered by a suite of new technologies, including a new imaging system for enhanced photos and videos.

The Xiaomi 12T Pro is the one to go for if you are a camera enthusiast. The phone packs a 200MP imaging system, which uses a mix of hardware and AI to enhance images, whether you are shooting at night or in low-light conditions, or if you are trying to get up close. The Pro has three camera sensors, a 108MP primary camera, joined by an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera.

Under the hood, the 12T Pro is equipped with the latest 4nm Snapdragon SoC, bringing a CPU and GPU performance uplift of 16.7% and 11%, respectively, compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new chip also reduces power consumption considerably, so you should get very good battery life too.

The standard Xiaomi 12T uses a MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Ultra SoC instead, which is based on TSMC's 5nm process. The chip has several improvements in power efficiency, GPU performance, cache and storage speeds compared to the previous generation, making it a solid upgrade too compared to the previous Xiaomi 11T.

Both phones have a large 5,000mAh battery and feature 120W HyperCharge, so if you have a compatible charger, you'll be able to juice up the phone to 100% in under 20 minutes. From there, you should have 13.5 hours worth of screen-on time before needing to charge again, although that number will obviously fluctuate depending on the apps you are using.

Both phones also feature a 6.67-inch CrystalRes AMOLED display, so you'll get vivid colours and plenty of clarity for watching videos, playing games, scrolling through the socials or taking photos and video.

The Xiaomi 12T Series is available in Black, Silver or Blue colourways. The 12T Pro will be available with an ‘early bird' offer from the 20th to the 24th of October. During this period, you can get the 200MP camera version for £599, after that the price will go up to £699. The standard 12T will cost £399 (128GB) or £499 (256GB) during the early bird period, after that the prices will rise to £499 and £549 respectively.

If you need a pair of earbuds to go with your shiny new phone, then Xiaomi is also launching the Redmi Buds 4 Pro. These are wireless earbuds that come in a charging case, offering Hi-Res certified audio, Active Noise Cancelation and up to 36 hours of battery life with the charging case. For extra convenience, you can also sync them to two devices at once.
