The LG G3 was widely praised for its 13MP camera, and the G4 has improved the pixel count by including a 16MP sensor. This takes images at a 16:9, 5312×2988 resolution. There is also a big 8MP secondary camera.
With the included camera app, photography is as simple or complex as you want it to be. This is because there are 3 basic modes to choose from – simple, auto or manual. In simple mode, everything is done for you. All you need to do is tap on the screen to take a photo. In auto mode, you have more control over things like image size, flash and grid lines. Manual is obviously manual settings – giving you DSLR-like control over your images. It is certainly an impressive piece of kit.
It was safe to say I was blown away my the photos the G4 produced. Colours are incredibly vibrant and rich, while the level of detail is fantastic – thanks to the 16MP sensor. On auto mode – which most people would use – images focus easily and accurately, too.
When viewed back on the phone, the photos look absolutely fantastic. On a larger screen – I copied them over to my 15.6″, 1080p laptop – they do lose some sharpness, but not much. This is a camera which well and truly put my Canon Ixus to shame, and I would go as far to say that with the G4, you simply do not need a compact camera at all.
