Google working on a touchscreen Chrome laptop

Rumours are circulating that Google are planning to announce a new touch screen laptop at a press event later today.

The Wall Street Journal joined the rumour mill last night saying that Google could unveil a touch version of the highly portable laptop featuring Google's Chrome operating system. They cited sources ‘familiar with the matter' and added that it was unclear when the devices would go on sale and which hardware manufacturer would be building them for Google.

A Google Chromebook with a touch screen could undermine the recent release by Microsoft of their Surface tablets, certainly aiming at the more budget end of the market.

IDC analyst Crawford Del Prete said “I think Google smells blood.”
