Sony Xperia SL leaked – doesn’t appear to offer big improvements

The successor to Sony's current flagship smartphone, the Xperia S, has been leaked and will be known as the Xperia SL. Courtesy of the Chinese website ePrice, some renders and specifications of the device have been revealed.

Externally, the Xperia SL looks much the same as its predecessor. However, it will be available in silver and pink in addition to the existing black and white colours of the Xperia S. The Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 dual-core processor inside gets a boost to 1.7 GHz, up 200 MHz from the Xperia S. While I was hoping I would see a Sony device with the stronger Snapdragon S4 inside it should be more than enough for most users.

Furthermore the SL will debut with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onboard, and given Sony's dedication to software updates a Android 4.1 update shouldn't be too far away. The rest of the specifications will likely stay the same with a 4.3 inch 720p display and a 12 MP camera.

KitGuru says: While the improvements are welcome, Sony are bringing out new phones which will demote the Xperia SL to a mid-range device.

KitGuru Games: The Best Console is the One in Your Pocket

Emulation is the saving grace of the video games industry. Despite its controversial nature, the technology will be the only way in which all games are preserved for the future – free from licensing agreements and other such nonsense. Better still is the fact that in a majority of cases, emulation allows for a more accurate recreation of the game’s original experience than official offerings, due to countless complex shaders, filters and tweakable settings. And the best part? Thanks to the progression of technology, your humble smartphone is able to do all this and more – giving you the power of 10,000 games in the palm of your hand.
