Reports suggest HTC is working on a 5″ 1080p smartphone

If 720p displays weren't already enough with PPI ratios sitting in the low 300's, reports are circulating that HTC could launch a smartphone with a 5 inch, 1080p display. The resulting pixel density? 440, well ahead of anything currently available.

Is a One X replacement on its way already?

This device from HTC could launch as soon as September or October according to DigiTimes' sources. Their source states a odd resolution of 1794 x 1080 but we are working on the assumption this is indeed a Full HD panel with 126 pixels removed for Android's on-screen navigation buttons.

This information falls in line with a GLBenchmark result from a month ago and reveals that the 5 inch device could house a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset paired with an Adreno 320 GPU.

KitGuru says: While the various sources may not be the most reliable, it does appear as if HTC plans to launch a 5 inch smartphone with an impressive 1080p display later this year.
