Huawei’s Ascend W1 looks awfully familiar

Huawei was set to unveil their Windows Phone 8 line-up last month but was later delayed for reasons unknown. Fortunately, announcement delays don't affect leaks of rumoured devices and the Huawei Ascend W1 has been given that treatment.

Straight away the pictures of the Ascend W1 reveal that Huawei's engineers have had some obvious design inspirations from HTC and Nokia. HTC's famous camera bulge from the One X is present and so is Nokia's curvy style and cyan blue colour scheme.

Reported specifications for the Ascend W1 include a 4 inch WVGA display, 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB of memory a 2000 mAh battery and a variety of colours. One thing to note is the strange location of the Micro USB slot in the above picture. It has been thought for a while the port would be standardised in the middle for maximum accessory compatibility.

KitGuru says: Huawei are a growing force in the smartphone arena, and regardless of design inspiration the Ascend W1 looks to be a strong competitor if it also combined Huawei's typically low asking prices.

KitGuru Games: The Best Console is the One in Your Pocket

Emulation is the saving grace of the video games industry. Despite its controversial nature, the technology will be the only way in which all games are preserved for the future – free from licensing agreements and other such nonsense. Better still is the fact that in a majority of cases, emulation allows for a more accurate recreation of the game’s original experience than official offerings, due to countless complex shaders, filters and tweakable settings. And the best part? Thanks to the progression of technology, your humble smartphone is able to do all this and more – giving you the power of 10,000 games in the palm of your hand.
