Huawei Ascend W2 scheduled for MWC debut

Throughout the second half of 2012 there were several rumours surrounding two Windows Phone handsets from Huawei. One of these devices, the Ascend W1, was announced last week at CES in Las Vegas. The Ascend W1 is their modest low to mid-range offering. The other, as yet unannounced handset is set to be known as the Ascend W2.

Huawei executive Richard Yu has revealed that the company plans to unveil two flagship quality smartphones at Mobile World Congress towards the end of February. While Yu's comments do not specifically mention the Ascend W2, given the numerous leaks and the recent unveiling of its little brother the theory does make sense.

The Ascend W1 was not overly pushed by Huawei, appearing as part of its CES booth with no real media push. It is likely that Huawei is reserving its Windows Phone 8 push with the upper-tier Ascend W2.

Currently rumoured specifications include a 4.5 inch 720p display, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, 1 GB of memory, an 8 MP camera and a 2800 mAh battery all slotted into a shell a questionable 7.7mm thin.

KitGuru says: It is hard to say how serious Huawei are about Windows Phone 8 given the launch of the Ascend W1. Hopefully the Ascend W2 can turn around that stigma.

Emulation is the saving grace of the video games industry. Despite its controversial nature, the technology will be the only way in which all games are preserved for the future – free from licensing agreements and other such nonsense. Better still is the fact that in a majority of cases, emulation allows for a more accurate recreation of the game’s original experience than official offerings, due to countless complex shaders, filters and tweakable settings. And the best part? Thanks to the progression of technology, your humble smartphone is able to do all this and more – giving you the power of 10,000 games in the palm of your hand.
