Android Ice Cream Sandwich adoption jumps to 16%

Google has today released the latest Android distribution figures. The data is collected from devices that have accessed the Google Play Store in the last two weeks and while it is perhaps most useful for developers, we like to have a look at it to see how “fragmented” the Android world is.

This month, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean makes it debut with a share of 0.8%. This is more than likely fueled by initial demand for the Nexus 7 tablet and those running custom ROMs on their devices. Meanwhile, Ice Cream Sandwich adoption increases, now sitting at 15.9%. This has increased from 10.9% last month.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread usage is finally on the decrease, falling from 64% to 60.6%. The percentage of users on 2.1 Eclair and 2.2 Froyo also decreased. However, there are still some stubborn users around with the earliest versions of Android taking a 0.7% share.

KitGuru says: Some promising growth for Android's two latest versions.
