2nd-gen AirPods Pro announced with ‘rebuilt sound’ and better noise cancelling

Apple unveiled a plethora of devices at their recent live event, including brand new iPhones as well as a rugged Apple Watch Ultra. For some, the most exciting announcement however came in the form of the 2nd-generation AirPods Pro, which is bringing with it significantly better active noise-cancelling; improved controls; personalised Spatial Audio and much more.

Available to preorder from tomorrow, the 9th of September (and shipping two weeks later from the 23rd), the 2nd-generation AirPods Pro brings with it a litany of hardware and software improvements.

The brand new H2 chip works in tandem with “a custom‑built driver and amplifier to deliver crisp, clear high notes and deep, rich bass in stunning definition” all the while offering increased efficiencies on all fronts.

What this means is that on top of improved sound quality, the new AirPods Pro will offer twice the level of noise cancellation when compared to the 1st-gen model while improving on battery life for 6 hours of uninterrupted listening.

Other upgrades include improved microphones for more natural-sounding speech when talking; adaptive transparency to let you hear the world around you while minimising the intensity of loud noises; improved controls letting you swipe on the AirPods to adjust sound volume; better tracking capabilities thanks to the inclusion of Apple’s U1 chip; as well as a built-in speaker for the case, meaning losing your AirPods should hopefully be quite difficult.

The 1st-generation AirPods Pro set the standard for truly wireless earbuds, and after three long years, it looks like the 2nd-generation Pros are once again ready to take the crown – for £249.
