First Apple M3-based systems could launch in October

Besides the new generation of iPhones, Apple might have another big announcement before the year's end. Recent reports suggest that after the announcement of the iPhone 15, the Cupertino-based company will reveal the first M3-based devices in October.

According to Bloomberg, the initial wave of Macs powered by the M3 chip could be released as soon as October. In the latest Power On newsletter, it's reported that there's potential for another launch following Apple's annual iPhone event in September. It's anticipated that Apple will shift its attention towards a fresh lineup of Macs during this event. Although October may seem too early for new high-end MacBook Pros or desktops, it's believed that the new chip will debut on either the next iMac, a new 13-inch MacBook Air, a 13-inch MacBook Pro, or a combination of the three.

In early March, reports suggested that Apple was in the advanced stages of developing two new iMac models based on the M3 chip. The upcoming iteration is anticipated to bear resemblance to Apple's existing M2 SoCs in terms of CPU and GPU but deliver noteworthy enhancements in both performance and power efficiency thanks to TSMC's N3 node.

Apple usually announces new iPad models alongside its latest Macs. However, that may not be the case this time around, as major upgrades are not anticipated until the arrival of the M3 iPad Pros with OLED screens next year. However, rumours claim Apple is developing a new iPad Air with updated internals, so there's a chance that aside from Mac devices, there will be a new iPad launch before the end of the year.
