Whatever its critics may say, the iPad Air 2 is certainly a beautiful tablet.
Constructed of aluminium and glass, there is an air of class right from the beginning. There are three colour options – Space Grey, Silver, and Gold. Each variation will appeal to different people, though all are still very premium designs.
As for the face of the iPad, the Air 2 continues with the slim bezels introduced by the original Air tablet – as previous iPads had bezels the width of a thumb. Improvements have been made over the Air, though, as the newer version is just 6.1mm thick, down from 7.5mm. It is a wonderfully slim device, and is quite breathtaking.
Similarly, the Air 2 is lighter than its older counterpart. We received an LTE version, which weighs 444g. The original Air LTE version weighs 478g. It is not much, but a definite improvement. Other than that, the dimensions are identical to Air's.
The on/off switch remains in its usual position on the top edge of the tablet, while separate volume buttons can be found on the right edge. Bang in the middle of the bottom edge is the Lighting connector – which is the useful reversible connection Apple use for its mobile devices.
So the iPad Air 2 does not rock the boat much with its design. Rather, it continues the positive aspects of the original Air tablet and improves on them – as we now have a thinner and lighter device. A fine piece of work indeed.
