Apple purchase HP land to expand Cupertino base

Apple have just purchased a 98 acre area of land that will roughly double the size of their HQ in Cupertino.

HP announced over the summer that it planned to move out of this area which it had occupied for many years as it consolidates operations at the Palo Alto HQ over the next 24 months. This move has been said to be a strong economical boost for Silicon Valley.

Apple as a company are riding as high as they ever have, with over $65 billion in sales last year, and they have hired an extra 12,300 employees, raising their workforce to 46,600 – many of whom are in Cupertino.

“We're very proud to have Apple's headquarters in our city. It's not just a company. It's the company,” said Mayor Kris Wang.

KitGuru says: The sale price has not been disclosed, but analysts suggest it was in the region of $300 million. Pocket change for Steve Jobs.
