Images of the upcoming ‘Ice Cream Sandwich' Android operating system have been leaked. The new user interface has a new application drawer and launcher system, as well as colour scheme changes and an overhauled notification bar.

Android Police have detailed the new features, including a stunning panorama setting for the camera. They also discuss a new GMAIL theme to match the interface. According to reports, the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system will also run on many older devices.

RootzWiki received a few pictures, one of which is posted on this page – they also list some changes:

  • Blue Themed
  • Camera has built in panorama mode
  • Will launch with Google Shopper and NFC Enabled devices will be able to utilize those features
  • Gmail is all rethemed
  • Will be available for the Nexus S
  • Nexus Prime gets it first (expected) then other devices will follow after
  • Not too many changes, just UI things, don't think requirements are set too high for year old devices to run it
  • The little icon in the bottom right, looks like a tray with multiple apps in it
  • Google search bar embedded on very top like Honeycomb
  • Apps/Widgets launcher a lot like Honeycomb
  • This release is still very early, notice the theming of the power tray

Kitguru says: Excited to play with the upcoming OS? We think it looks great so far.

  1. Cant wait for this 🙂

  2. Any speed improvements? always like those.

  3. @Nester
Read something about upto 1.8x performance improvement, cant remember where but it didnt mention in what kinda stuff though

  4. Nothing truly great about the future of Android. All those accessories just reminded me of that particular Wii approach with all these things to buy but nothing to make them work. Did love the tablets you 5,000 people got!

  5. Is Android performance sensitive to memory levels? My iPad is always quick and never do I have to wonder how much memory is being used. Windows is another story 🙁
