Chrome OS targets Windows – later this year

Google made a statement to inform the press that they are releasing their Chrome OS later this year. Google CEO Eric Schmidt has been outspoken about Windows operating systems and has even instructed his staff not to use it, citing security concerns. Apparently Chrome OS will be more secure than Fort Knox.

Chrome OS will be a free, open source package and with Googles marketing clout, should be downloaded immediately by millions of people. Adoption for gamers will be extremely slow as hardware companies will need to start coding drivers for it, perhaps even paying additional R&D teams.

Microsoft have stated that the development time for software companies will be massively increased and when you consider some are already coding for Windows, OSX and Linux, perhaps the costs will outweigh the benefits.

KitGuru says: Taking on Microsoft in the operating system market is not an easy task.

  1. Chrome OS wont be a gaming system, no hope. If Apple cant target microsoft for this market google have sod all chance.

  2. I personally feel MS is charging too much premium for their OS market. Atleast here in India the cost for average user like us too high considering the income which we earn as compared to developed market. MS should heavily think about it.

My View: There is no doubt that Chrome will overtake MS easily and rapidly in laptop and notebook / netbook market. Mark my words here Kitguru. Bcoz it comes free. When i went onto purchase a new laptop i desperately wanted WinXP and couldnt find one and had no option but to shell out big money on Vista OS which i personally dont like because of its slowness, interface & complexity. I love this Win XP OS to none but if Win can upgrade their OS without old looks, interface & commands then i dont mind upgrading you see. I dnt want to learn different commands for different OS. Its headache and this is where i would go in for free OS.

Plus we find too many limitations in terms of hardware when it comes to XP like folder size, file size and many things. (I may b wrong here but not fully)
