Windows 8 preview video

Microsoft Windows 8 is the hot topic of conversation right now. Many people are hoping it isn't a repeat of Windows Vista, and more in line with Windows 7 (although I am probably one of the few journalists who liked vista).

Microsoft showcased a few aspects of the new “Windows 8″ interface:
• Launching of programs apps from a tile-based Start screen, which replaces the Windows Start menu with a customizable, scalable full-screen view of programsapps.
• Live tiles with notifications, showing up-to-date information from your programs apps.
• Switching between running programs apps.
• Touch-optimized browsing, with all the power of hardware-accelerated Internet Explorer 10.
• Capability to snap and resize a program an app to the side of the screen.
• Web-connected and Web-powered programs apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript.

  1. wow they sure as hell have changed the interface. just when I was getting used to Win 7 too 🙁

  2. As a Gamer, I wasn’t really looking forward to Windows 8 after hearing the rumors that it won’t include DX12, but DX11.1, but after seeing this Video, I think Microsoft has managed to change my mind, and a lot of other people’s.

Keyboard/Mouse AND Touch Tech. Support is very “Open-Minded.” Well done. Doesn’t force people to upgrade to Touch Monitors, and doesn’t force Games/Gamers to have to adapt to Touch Tech. Smart.

The “Split Keyboard” thing? Genius. They’ve really thought out potential issues with the Touch Tech. nice. Will help for people that get 25″+ Monitors. The Keyboard will start to stretch and get extra large and that’ll just start to get annoying at some point, but this Split Keyboard thing should solve that problem for the “Big Screens.”

One qualm I’d have is that they seem to still be hanging on to the “Internet Explorer” Browser…. I’d kill for a replacement from Microsoft.

Besides that, so far looks very exciting. Can’t wait to see more. Hopefully the rumor about DX11.1 instead of 12 is just fake too.

  3. Hmm.. how much do I want a touch screen interface, when i already spend so much effort cleaning the muck off my 2 grand design monitor that is more than an arms length away from me? Won’t be using that for a start.

How much do I want ugly space wasting tiles to display the hundreds of programs I have neatly foldered up in the start menu… and when I’ve never even used a desktop shortcut or icon view in a folder even once in the last 15 years

How much do I hate all these fluid animated movements that make you seasick and I always switch off the moment I get my hands on a computer
Let me think about this all for a microsecond…
    Argh!

    Can I run CS5 on 3.1?

  4. I’m sorry, but windows 8 seems to be a fail from me as the perspective of a gamer that really wouldn’t want all this excess stuff wasting space and ram, and I’m not liking the new home screen idea, yes this all would be nice on a tablet, but my gaming computer is not a tablet. I also hope that dx 12 is coming out on this like impy has stated.
