Windows 8 final ‘release preview’ to hit June

Windows 8 is like marmite, you either hate it or love it, according to independent research. Microsoft have a lot riding on the success in the next 2-3 years, especially in the mobile marketplace. They have said that they are going to issue a ‘release preview' of Windows 8 in the first week of June as they prepare for the final release later this year.

Steven Sinofsky, Windows chief has revealed the plans at a developers during an event in Japan. Microsoft have yet to confirm the final release date, although the most up to date rumours would suggest an October time frame. Bloomberg also reported a few weeks ago that the company are aiming to complete work on Windows 8 by the summer.

Windows 8: a move in the right direction for Microsoft?

Windows 8 is splitting opinion so far, with many enthusiast desktop users unimpressed by the dramatic interface changes, which suit a tablet, or mobile phone. It will be released in three versions. Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT. The RT version will be released for ARM architecture devices, mainly in the mobile space. Software developed for x86/64 will not run on this version of Windows 8 however so many fell it will be a disaster for Microsoft who have lost a lot of ground to Apple and Google mobile devices.
