Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will reportedly be the last major Switch title

The Nintendo Switch launched in 2017 alongside the much anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Following its massive success, a sequel was announced – Tears of the Kingdom. With the sequel releasing 6 years after BOTW, new rumours are claiming that the upcoming title will be the last major Switch release by Nintendo before moving on to new hardware.

Following the revelation by Digital Foundry that the much-rumoured Nintendo Switch Pro was indeed in the works before ultimately being cancelled, talk surrounding the console manufacturer’s next piece of hardware flared up, with industry insider Andy Robinson of VGC taking to Twitter to say:

“From what I’m hearing I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo starts talking about new hardware by 2024. I’m not convinced another huge first-party game other than Zelda is left on Switch (usual Nintendo prediction caveats apply…)”

Following this, another industry insider – Christopher Dring of Gamesindustry.biz – discussed the future games output of Nintendo (or lack thereof) claiming that “I have heard that after Zelda, Nintendo doesn't have a significant game for quite some time.”

If what is being said is true, then much-desired titles such as a new Mario game or perhaps even Metroid Prime 4 are being developed with the Switch’s successor in mind. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the only major Nintendo title we currently have a release date for, and so it will be interesting to see what the console manufacturer has to say following the release of TOTK.

KitGuru says: What do you think of these claims? Are you ready for a new Nintendo console? Would you want it to be a Switch 2? Let us know down below.
