Xbox Game Pass is profitable claims Phil Spencer

Ever since Xbox Game Pass first went live, the game subscription service has been met with scepticism by some due to its ‘too good to be true’ value proposition. That being said, according to Xbox’s Phil Spencer, Game Pass is doing just fine, with the service said to be profitable for the company.

As part of the Wall Street Journal’s live tech conference, Xbox head Phil Spencer discussed all things Xbox, including the potential for a price hike in the future. That being said, even without such a rise, the Xbox brand is said to be doing rather well, with Spencer claiming (as transcribed by The Verge’s Tom Warren) that its Game Pass service is profitable, saying:

“I think [Game Pass] will stay in that 10-15% of our overall revenue, and it's profitable for us.”

While profitable, Xbox Game Pass is currently seeing different levels of success between Xbox Game Pass for PC and console, with Spencer saying:

“We're seeing incredible growth on PC… on console I've seen growth slow down, mainly because at some point you've reached everybody on console that wants to subscribe.”

Xbox Game Pass continues to see new major titles drop onto the service on a monthly basis, and while the service model seems somewhat unsustainable, coming straight from the horse’s mouth this seems to not be the case.
