Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection can run at 120fps on PS5

Sony have slowly but surely been bringing all of their PlayStation 4 games up to modern standards, some through simple PS5 patches, and others through full-on remasters. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is one of the latter – however in doing so, you can now play some of the best Uncharted games at 120fps.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection was announced back in September for both the PlayStation 5 and PC. It has now been announced that the PS5 version will launch on the 28th of January 2022 ahead of the PC release.

Both Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy (the two games in the collection) were given PS4 Pro patches, and so were already visually impressive. Alongside 3D Audio and DualSense support, the PS5 version has now been announced to be coming with 3 different modes:

  • Fidelity Mode – For those of you who have a 4K display and want super sharp resolution above all else to enjoy the stunning environments and details the Uncharted series is known for, select Fidelity Mode and play in native 4K resolution with a 30fps target framerate.
  • Performance Mode – We carried over the high framerate PS4 patch with Performance Mode, which targets a 60fps frame rate.
  • Performance+ Mode – If you’re all about the smoothest gameplay possible and don’t mind a resolution drop, try out our first ever Performance+ Mode which targets 120fps* at a 1080p resolution.

This will be the first time that a Naughty Dog game has run at 120fps and so it will be interesting to see how the studio’s games – which have always put an emphasis on cinematic experiences – looks and feels at 120fps.

Perhaps even more exciting is what this means for other Naughty Dog games. If the studio is able to get Uncharted 4 running at 120fps, then it stands to reason that other games could also see a similar treatment. The PS3 Uncharted trilogy as well as the Last of Us Part I & II are all ripe for PS5 remasters. Seeing all these games enhanced on PS5 (and PC) would be exciting to watch.

Furthermore, knowing Naughty Dog’s attention to detail and perfectionist attitude, it is safe to say that these games will hit their intended frame rate targets without any issues. Of course, we will have to wait and see.
