Toys for Bob reportedly working on another Crash Bandicoot game

Back in April 2021, we reported that Toys for Bob, the Activision-owned studio responsible for the Spyro remakes as well as Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, was being reduced to a support studio for Call of Duty. Luckily, it seems as though this decision has been somewhat reversed, with Toys for Bob said to be working on a new Crash game.

In a recent episode of the ‘Xbox Chaturdays’ podcast, known industry insider Jez Corden claimed that Toys for Bob is working on a new game based in the world of Crash Bandicoot. According to Corden, this game will not be a sequel to 2020’s Crash Bandicoot 4, but will instead be a multiplayer (4 player) Brawler.

Little else was revealed about the game, however it is expected to be announced during the upcoming Summer Game Fest – though it is unclear at which conference it is planned to appear at.

Though this upcoming title may not be a 5th mainline Crash Bandicoot game, it is exciting nonetheless to see Toys for Bob continuing to work on the franchise in some capacity. In the wake of last year’s announcement that the studio would be reduced to a support role for Call of Duty, an ex-developer at the studio called the move “the end of an era.”

Of course, the entire situation surrounding the future of Crash is currently unknown. Should the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft go through, then the Xbox manufacturer will not only own the Crash Bandicoot IP, but also Toys for Bob. With Microsoft lacking any compelling first party mascot platformers, it would make sense to bring Crash back. Until then, hopefully this new Crash game is good.
