Total Capcom game sales surpass 500 million

2023 represents the 40th anniversary of Capcom. So far, they have treated the year well, releasing two highly rated titles in 2023 in the form of Resident Evil 4 Remake and most recently Street Fighter 6. In celebration of the publisher’s anniversary, they released a number of interesting facts – including that they have sold over 500 million games.

As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, Capcom released an infographic highlighting their many successful franchises as well as just how many games they have sold over the past 4 decades.

According to Capcom, across 307 titles and 230 countries/regions the publisher has managed to sell a total of over 500 million units – an average of 1.6 million units per game. Speaking on this massive milestone, the publisher said “At Capcom. we do more than just make games; we are creators of entertainment culture, developing highly creative content that thrills and delights.”

They continue, “Since 1983, we have leveraged our world-leading software development strengths to create titles as popular in Hollywood and the e-sports arena as at home, bringing fun and excitement to more than 230 countries and regions worldwide.”

Capcom concluded by saying: “Today, we are more determined than ever to help make the world a happier place by delivering unparalleled entertainment to fans worldwide. We are truly grateful to reach such a major milestone, and it’s all thanks to your ongoing support.”

Of course, when you consider the fact that Minecraft is closing in on 250 million copies sold, Capcom’s total library sales seem rather small. 500 million copies is certainly worth celebrating however, regardless of whether GTA V sold 180 million units singlehandedly.
