The new PlayStation Plus will be updated twice a month with more games

Though it feels like forever since the rumours began which claimed that Sony was working on a revamp of their PlayStation Plus subscription service, the new PS Plus Extra and Premium are set to finally go live across different markets throughout the month of June. Ahead of this launch, Sony have now gone into much greater depth regarding what fans can expect, including the fact that the PS Plus library will now be updated twice a month.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog, Sid Shuman, the Senior Director for SIE Content Communications, discussed the newly revamped service in great depth. While many of the details were simply reiterating previously announced information, a number of important nuggets of information were revealed.

The new PS Plus is being advertised as a three tier system. While this is technically the case, markets which don’t support PlayStation cloud streaming will not be able to access the highest tier PlayStation Plus Premium. Interestingly, those markets will instead get their own tier in the form of PlayStation Plus Deluxe – which is exactly the same as PS Plus Premium minus the streaming. It was not announced whether PS Plus Deluxe will share the same price as Premium, though based on the company’s use of regional pricing, it ultimately doesn’t matter.

The biggest bit of new information pertains to the rate at which the PS Plus library will be refreshed. In the past, both PlayStation Plus and PS Now received a single monthly refresh each at the beginning of the month. With these services being blended together, Sony has confirmed that PS Plus Essential titles will continue to come out on the first Tuesday of each month. Now however, “another monthly refresh will occur in the middle of the month with new games across PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans. The number of games refreshed will vary per month.”

The full details can be found on the blog post HERE, answering almost any question you might have regarding the service – except for what the full line-up of games coming at launch are.
