The Long Dark surpasses 10 million players

The Long Dark is a unique and much-loved survival game which captured the interest of many following its Early Access debut all the way back in 2014. In the many years since, The Long Dark has continued to see updates from the studio, with fans responding in tow, as it has now been revealed that the game has amassed over 10 million players.

As part of a recent dev diary, The Long Dark team announced the game’s first piece of paid expansion pass content in the form of ‘Tales from the Far Territory’ which will bring with it new regions; story content; music and even additional gameplay systems including Handheld Shortwave; Travois; Safehouse Customization; Trader; Complex Recipes for Cooking; and new Item Variants.

As part of this blogpost, the team also provided comprehensive breakdowns of the game’s player count by platform, revealing not only that in total there are now more than 10 million players, but also just how many of those 10 million are paid players:

  • Steam (paid): 4,000,000
  • Xbox (paid): 750,000
  • Xbox Game Pass (subscription): 2,000,000
  • PlayStation (paid): 500,000
  • PlayStation+ (subscription): 1,300,000
  • Switch (paid): 68,000
  • WeGame (paid): 125,000
  • Epic Game Store (combo paid + give-away): 1,500,000+

It’s not often that we get such details on a game, and so to have a platform breakdown such as this is interesting indeed. Regardless of where players are playing, it is impressive to see The Long Dark doing better than ever so many years after its initial release.
