The Gears of War franchise has sold over 40 million copies

The Gears of War franchise has long been one of Microsoft’s biggest, with the Xbox console exclusive dominating the zeitgeist during the Xbox 360 era. To this day, the franchise remains strong, and in the wake of the announcement that a Gears of War Netflix film and animated series are on their way, an update on the sales performance across the franchise has now been revealed.

As part of the announcement by Netflix in which the entertainment company revealed that they are working on both a live-action film as well as an adult animated series, an update on the sales performance of the games was given, revealing that the Gears of War franchise has sold over 40 million copies as of 2019.

This figure is especially impressive when considering the fact that it only accounts for sales up until 2019 – with the likes of Gears 5 and Gears Tactics having come out since then.

For some additional context, it was announced back in 2014 that the Gears franchise had surpassed 22 million copies since the first game released in 2006 – meaning that when accounting for sales post 2019, total franchise figures are likely to be more than double.

With Gears 5 now being over 3 years old, fans are likely to be itching for more Gears of War, and with the announcement that Netflix is working on a film and show, it feels as though a new game reveal is inevitable.
