Team Fortress 2 servers (on PS3) are being shut down tomorrow

Back in 2007 Valve and EA partnered with one another to bring the now iconic Orange Box package to PC as well as 7th-gen consoles – consisting of Half-Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. After maintaining online functionality for more than 15 years, Team Fortress 2’s servers will finally be shut down tomorrow…on PlayStation 3.

In going to EA’s website (which lists all the games which have had their servers shut down), Team Fortress 2 is set to go offline permanently tomorrow on the 28th of March. Interestingly, despite The Orange Box releasing on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, it is seemingly only the latter version which is having its servers taken offline.

Considering the fact that EA has already shut down servers for the Nintendo Switch version of FIFA 2019, it is somewhat surprising to see that Team Fortress 2 has had its servers maintained for so long despite being on hardware from 2 generations ago.

For PlayStation players wanting to engage in some good old nostalgia, a subreddit has been set up in order to help bring some life into the PS3 title during its final days.

Ever since Valve shifted its focus to Steam and the PC platform, we have seen very few releases from the company brought to consoles – meaning now might be the last time you’ll be able to experience Team Fortress on a PlayStation system.
