Summer Games Done Quick adopts a digital format; will not be delayed

With the current global climate surrounding COVID-19 and social distancing, dozens of events have had to be either cancelled, delayed, or altered to fit an online format. Games Done Quick, the biannual speedrunning event for charity, has now announced that its Summer event will take place entirely online – though the schedule has remained unaltered.

Making a statement on Twitter, Games Done Quick announced that “In light of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the on-site portion of #SGDQ2020 and instead proceed with an online-only event, Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online. For more information, including submissions and volunteer information: http://gamesdonequick.com.”

Traditionally, Games Done Quick would be streamed online, however a major element to the event was the addition of on-site audience members who would add to the atmosphere of the event – lending their cheers of support to the speed runners.

Though it is unfortunate that this aspect to the event has had to be altered, the rest of Summer Games Done Quick looks to remain the same. The event will still take place between August 16-23, starting at 4:30PM UK time, and all donations will continue to be offered to the Doctors Without Borders charity.

Last year’s Summer Games Done Quick raised over $3 million for the charity, and so it is encouraging to see that in spite of the potential setbacks due to COVID-19, SGDQ 2020 is going full speed ahead.
