Spyro Reignited Trilogy has sold over 10 million copies

September 2023 marks the 25th anniversary of Spyro the Dragon – an iconic PS1 mascot which helped cement the 5th console generation as being one of the best when it came to 3D platformers and collectathons. Despite losing its cache over the decades, Spyro came back in a massive way in 2018 thanks to the Spyro Reignited Trilogy – having now officially sold over 10 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Spyro the Dragon page revealed that the 2018 remake of PS1’s Spyro Trilogy has sold over 10 million copies, saying “Kicking off our special #Spyroversary month with an extra special celebration. Shout out to the Spyro community for hitting this HUGE milestone.”

While certainly an impressive achievement, this milestone is somewhat hampered by the fact that the team behind the excellent remake – Toys for Bob – were reduced to being a simple support studio for Call of Duty back in 2021.

Fortunately, this has been somewhat reversed since, with them releasing Crash Team Rumble earlier this year.

With The Reignited Trilogy ‘reigniting’ many fans’ love for Spyro, hopefully the team at Toys for Bob are working on another – perhaps original – entry in the Spyro series. We will have to wait and see.
