Splatoon 3 is getting a rogue-lite DLC

During Nintendo’s most recent Direct showcase, the console manufacturer showed off a whole bunch of new titles, while also updating fans on already-released games. One of the more interesting announcements came in the form of DLC for Splatoon 3 – adding a brand new rogue-lite game mode.

As part of the Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass, Nintendo announced the Side Order DLC: “Featuring a brand-new story, the single-player Side Order DLC will challenge you to ascend the Spire of Order in an experience that’s designed to be replayed over and over!”

It is interesting to see Splatoon getting more and more single player content, especially as the game was originally highly multiplayer-focused. That said, the game itself and its mechanics lend very well to the rules of rogue-lites, and so this latest announcement is exciting indeed.

Unfortunately, we will be waiting quite a while to get our hands on this upcoming DLC, as Nintendo revealed that it will not be arriving until some time in Spring of 2024.

According to dataminers, this second DLC wave was internally delayed, which makes sense as to why it will launch over a year later than the first wave. Still, with the concept of rogue-lites being their infinite replayability, hopefully the Side Order DLC will be worth the wait.
